2011 and Beyond...

So...where do I start with this year? I have been coaching over 20 years (15 of them in softball) and I can easily say, this was the strangest years I have been through. However, it was strange in many way and not all of them bad.

I guess I should have seen things coming from the start. We traveled 1/3 of the way around the globe to Hawaii and our first game of the year gets rained out! Then it rains all day on the last day of the trip. Talk about an omen. From Hawaii to our last games against Temple...it rained and rained and rained. The most beautiful day of the season ended up being senior day when we were able to honor Maureen Wells and Kara Morenus. That in itself was a blessing.

So how do you recap a year when you finish 13-20 over-all and 8-12 in the Atlantic 10? In a funny way, I actually enjoyed this year. I enjoyed it because my players made the best out of many tough situations. They could have easily given up but they didn't. We beat 4 out of the 6 teams advancing to the A10 championships and the other two we lost games of 1-0, and 5-2 which was a well played close game till late. We fought through weather, sickness, injuries, shocking incidents and losses in our personal families and in our SBU family. Life sometimes gets in the way of sports...as it should. I had a amazing group of young ladies this year. I am proud of them.

More to come...

  1. It was the worst spring ever, and all the WNY teams were affected by it.

  2. It was a crazy year. The lack of success by all the Big 4 teams proves it. The weather plays a major role in a success of a team.
